Prayer Chain

The City of God Prayer Group operates the CCSFX email prayer chain which is a ministry of prayer and support for those in need. It is just one way that CCSFX members raise their intercessory prayer to the Lord. It is a sacred trust and a privilege before the throne of God. It is one way we conform to the Lord’s will: pray constantly.

Since it is a sacred trust we should take care to offer our prayers with wisdom and grace. Therefore, we offer these guidelines:

RESPECT:  Please respect those for whom we pray. Make sure you have a person’s permission to share information before sending a prayer request to the email prayer chain.

WHO PRAYS:  We invite each and every member of the CCSFX parish to join the email prayer chain. Imagine how pleased the Lord must be to hear so many praying together every day for so many in need.

FOR WHOM DO WE PRAY: We ask that prayer requestors know the person for whom prayer is requested or have received a prayer request from someone the requestor knows. For example, if you knew Sally and she told you she has a child in her classroom who has cancer we certainly want to pray. We do not want to discourage you in any way praying for any global concerns such as an end to war, an end to poverty or hunger, etc. However, we ask that prayer requests sent to the email prayer chain be specific, involving folks we know and whose progress we can follow.

PETITION AND THANKSGIVING: We ask that you provide update/s regarding anyone for whom you sent a prayer request. We do this so we can continue to pray when needed. Just as importantly we need to know when prayers are answered. Why? So we can pray just as fervently in thanksgiving as we do in petition. So please send updates: we want to thank the Lord as earnestly as we ask Him for help.

1) All prayer requests are sent to prayerchain [at] sfxcityofgod [dot] org and are automatically forwarded to the prayer group members that administrate the prayer chain.  One of them will forward the request from their own personal email to the prayer chain.

2) We refrain from sending out requests that we feel are inappropriate.  We send prayer requests to pray for folks who are really in need. We don’t pray for folks to win the lottery, have the Orioles win the World Series or close that really big sale.

3) Email is the only way we communicate the prayer requests we receive.

4) We rely upon you to keep us updated with any changes in your email addresses and we delete email addresses that “bounce” a few times.  If you wish to be removed from the prayer chain or change your email address, just send that information to prayerchain [at] sfxcityofgod [dot] org.

6) Requests are usually sent by email to the email prayer chain on the day they are received. Sometimes there are multiple emails sent. On occasion there may be delays.

7) Occasionally, we will send an email pertaining to the prayer group ministry – e.g. information about an upcoming healing mass, a teaching, etc.

Once again, most importantly, this is a sacred trust. It is a gift from the Lord. We are the intercessors and it is the Lord who does what He wills. We give Him all the glory and honor. We praise Him, petition Him, and thank Him.
